A wild save recently played out in Ware as police helped get a young deer out of a backyard pool. Police shared body camera video of the rescue on Friday, showing officers arriving to find the deer in the pool and struggling to get out. Circling the water, officers at one point tried to lure the frightened deer over. The deer, though, kept getting caught in the pool covering. Deer are known to be strong swimmers. But since this animal was still young, it may not have been able to stay afloat as well as an adult. In the end, working against the clock, officers were able to help boost the deer out of the pool with a pool skimmer as the deer tried to pull itself up.School resource officer buys bikes for family that recently moved to Swampscott from Ukraine

A family from Ukraine recently received a generous gift in Swampscott in the form of new bikes after a school resource officer came across their story. When the family’s children started school, they had no means of transportation. So, they walked. The family’s eldest daughter, though, has leg problems that left her in pain by the time she got to school. The child’s school principal at Swampscott Middle School noticed the situation and sent out a message to staff to see if anyone had a used bike they could donate. Swampscott officer Brian Wilson saw the email and said he didn’t hesitate to help out this family. With funds from an account for his comfort dog, Wilson bought the family three new bikes and a scooter.“I just didn’t hesitate,” Wilson said. “Especially when new to the country, knowing the struggles they were probably going through, it just felt right.” “Sometimes you just know something’s right and that’s what this felt like and I just wanted to do ...Jasson Domínguez homers in first at-bat as youthful Yankees beat Astros

HOUSTON — Hours before Austin Wells and Jasson Domínguez made their major league debuts for the Yankees, the former said the latter wouldn’t be intimated by Justin Verlander, the Astros’ starter on Friday night.“From the first time I played with him, he is unfazed by really anything,” Wells said of Domínguez. “So I mean, for him, facing Verlander, he probably doesn’t even care. It’s just another arm on the mound.”Lo and behold, Domínguez homered off Verlander with the very first swing of his very first at-bat, taking the right-hander into the Crawford Boxes at Minute Maid Park. The 20-year-old’s first-inning, two-run blast off the 40-year-old, future Hall of Famer gave the Yankees a three-run lead after DJ LeMahieu led the game off with a solo homer. The explosive first inning paved the way for a 6-2, series-opening win for the Yankees.Domínguez’s home run also showed why he has received endless ...Royals pound James Paxton, rout reeling Red Sox 13-2

The Kansas City Royals came into Friday losers of six straight, 13 of their last 15 and having gone 9-19 for the month of August. They’d already lost 94 games and are on pace to finish 49-113, which would rank among the worst records in MLB history. You’d think a team like that would be a welcome sight after the week the Red Sox just had, but at this point even the Royals are capable of making Boston’s life miserable. The Royals laid a beating on James Paxton and the Red Sox Friday night, chasing the struggling left-hander after only four outs in what wound up being a 13-2 rout. Paxton allowed six runs over 1.1 innings, including back-to-back solo home runs in the bottom of the first before completely melting down in the second. Salvador Perez led the Royals by going 3 for 5 with two home runs and four RBI, and all told the Royals combined for 17 hits and four homers on the night. It marked the latest in a string of short outings by Boston’s starting pitchers, w...Typhoon Saola makes landfall in southern China after nearly 900,000 people moved to safety
