Except for Half Moon Bay, no one does pumpkin season like Trader Joe’s. The autumnal array of products, which seems to have arrived earlier than ever, includes a sizable number of returning bestsellers and a few new options. We bought two grocery bags’ worth of snacks and treats and put them to the test. Here are the results:THE CLEAR FAVORITESPumpkin Cranberry Crisps ($3.99) and Pumpkin Cream Cheese ($2.49): This duo scored the highest in our informal tasting. The crackers, which are a seasonal variation on Trader Joe’s Raisin Rosemary Crisps and Fig & Olive Crisps, are a sophisticated snack, and would be terrific for a Thanksgiving appetizer tray. “Crisp, munchable, good texture” — with a nice pop from the cranberry — summed up the views. We served them with the seasonal cream cheese, but as one taster noted, “They could pair well with a soft cheese like a mascarpone or a goat.” All our tasters thought the cream cheese was ...Charlotte Sena’s alleged kidnapper caught after his predawn visit to her family’s home, police say

(BCN) -- On Monday morning, San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan, alongside Vice Mayor Rosemary Kamei and Councilmember Omar Torres, will officially declare homelessness in San Jose a crisis. They will bring forward measures that, if passed, will allow the city to streamline procurement, suspend local land use and zoning requirements and bypass other steps that otherwise slow down the ability to provide interim housing and safe sleeping sites. The 11:15 a.m. event will be at the corner of Lelong and Willow streets in San Jose and will be live streamed on the mayor's social media. The shelter crisis memo will be coming before the Rules and Open Government Committee, on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 2 p.m.The ordinance is specifically tailored to cut red tape surrounding the creation of low barrier solutions to homelessness and better align city processes to match recently passed state legislation for permanent affordable housing.Copyright © 2023 Bay City News, Inc.Pedro Sánchez acepta la petición del rey de España para intentar formar Gobierno: ¿cuándo sería la investidura y qué necesita para lograrlo?

Just never the Ryder Cup

GUIDONIA MONTECELIO, Italy (AP) — The Americans always seem to come home from the Ryder Cup with plenty of drama.Just never the trophy.Maybe they need another task force to figure out a way to tip their caps — whoever is wearing one, anyway — and congratulate Team Europe for a superior performance, and then wait for their next chance to end three decades of losing on the road. But there was Phil Mickelson in 2014 at Gleneagles, using Tom Watson as leverage to give players more control over who gets to be captain. It led to a task force that has accomplished little else besides making the U.S. team feel like a social club. Then it was Patrick Reed in 2018 in Paris, getting on the phone with The New York Times after Europe had won convincingly. He blamed Jordan Spieth for breaking up their partnership, Jim Furyk for benching him twice and the entire U.S. team for putting ego over the Ryder Cup.And now it’s the father of Xander Schauffele, who watches golf with a monocular and spea...AUTO RACING: Blaney joins Byron in NASCAR’s round of 8; Verstappen can clinch F1 title in Qatar

JUBA, South Sudan (AP) — At least one in five children arriving in South Sudan from Sudan are malnourished and more than 90% of arrivals haven’t eaten in days, the U.N. food agency said Tuesday. The World Food Program said that nearly 300,000 people have arrived in South Sudan in the last five months — the majority of whom are South Sudanese. South Sudan plunged into civil war in 2013, forcing thousands of its citizens to flee to neighboring countries, including Sudan.“We are seeing families leave one disaster for another as they flee danger in Sudan only to find despair in South Sudan,” says Mary-Ellen McGroarty, WFP’s country director in South Sudan.Sudan plunged into chaos in mid-April when long-simmering tensions between the military, led by Gen. Abdel Fattah Burhan, and the Rapid Support Force paramilitary, or RSF, commanded by Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo, escalated into open warfare. The WFP is appealing for additional funding of more than $120 million to meet humanitarian needs at t...Stock market today: Wall Street buckles again under the weight of higher bond yields

NEW YORK (AP) — Wall Street is sinking sharply Tuesday as it focuses on the downside of a surprisingly strong job market. The S&P 500 was 1.3% lower in midday trading and nearly back to where it was in May. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 371 points, or 1.1%, at 33,062, as of 11:16 a.m. Eastern time, and the Nasdaq composite was 1.7% lower.Stocks fell as the pressure on them cranked even higher from rising Treasury yields in the bond market. Such weight has been the main reason the stock market has lost more than 40% of its value since the end of July, after charging higher for much of the year. The 10-year Treasury yield climbed again Tuesday, up to 4.76% from 4.69% late Monday and from just 0.50% early in the pandemic. It’s near its highest level since 2007 and rose after a report showed U.S. employers have many more job openings than expected. When bonds are paying so much more in interest, they pull investment dollars away from stocks and other investments prone to ...Latest news
