Looking Glass: You’re a cop? Well, what a coincidence; I’m a cop too

A man impersonating a police officer, with red and blue flashing lights on his BMW, pulled over a real off-duty female police officer in Rochester Hills, Mich. The real cop identified herself, and asked for his ID which he said he would get from his car. Then he drove off and she followed, catching him in a trailer park switching license plates to another BMW he owned.BUT I THINK OF HER AS VERY HUMAN, OFFICER: Commuters in Melbourne, Australia, anxious to use the multi-passenger traffic lanes during rush hour, have bought so many of a life-like sex doll named Donna — for $5,500 each — that they have completely sold out. Officials have warned against putting “Donna” in their front seats in order to use the high-speed lanes, saying that “passengers must be human.”SO WE HAVE A PRETTY GOOD IDEA OF WHAT HE LOOKS LIKE: A man demanded cash with a threatening note at a bank in Philadelphia, but he forgot to pull his mask up over his face in full view of the security cameras.OK, OK, WE’RE GO...

More than 226,000 customers still without power in Quebec after ice storm

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 04:07:48 GMT

MONTREAL — The pace of power restoration in Quebec was expected to slow down on Saturday, now that hydro crews have dealt with the largest-scale outages caused by this week’s deadly ice storm. As of 1 p.m. ET, just over 226,000 customers were still in the dark three days after freezing rain sent icy branches crashing down onto power lines, streets and cars.“The bulk part of our distribution system has been restored, so now we are doing some work on outages with a smaller amount of customers attached to them. So when we restore an outage, fewer customers regain power,” Maxime Nadeau, director of energy system control for Hydro-Québec told a Saturday morning news conference. “So the rhythm of restoration will be slower.”He said some of the roughly 3,000 remaining outages are in hard-to-access areas or are trickier to resolve, which will also slow the progress.More than a million people were without power at the peak of the outages caused by Wednesday’...

Kickin’ It with Kiz: Is Nuggets center Nikola Jokic drowning in Haterade?

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 04:07:48 GMT

Nikola Jokic is a big part of the Nuggets’ late-season problems. Crazy, I know. Hear me out. If Jokic runs away from the MVP discussion, why should teammates give it their all for him? Jokic has not played well since the stupid Kendrick Perkins controversy, going into a shell, with poor passing, carelessness with the ball and a general lack of observable interest. It is too bad. The Nuggets have gone stale at the wrong time.– Tim, misses his MVPKiz: While he loves basketball, Jokic often seems to feel imprisoned by his celebrity status in the NBA. Is it just me, but does Joker look emotionally weary from all the Haterade poured on him? Either the playoffs will rejuvenate him, or Jokic won’t have the physical and mental strength to do the heavy lifting required to carry Denver to the NBA Finals.New Broncos coach Sean Payton has already started fixing quarterback Russell Wilson. Let us count the ways. Payton took away Wilson’s private office, threw shade at him...
